Museum of Automatons

The museum presents a collection of moving characters, all manufactured in its workshops and carefully displayed in keeping with the main heritage themes.
The museum exhibits around twenty scenes featuring automatic puppets in 7 rooms. Visitors discover a number of secrets concerning the manufacture of the automatons, and then the animated scenes: "Gargantua" by Rabelais, "The Magic Flute" by Mozart, Guignol, "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" by Victor Hugo, work in the fields based on the series of paintings by Millet, the lives of the Canuts, Peter Pan, Zorro, "20,000 Leagues under the sea"... Fun and instructive visits for adults and children alike, with a treasure hunt for the kids. Tour time: approximately 1 hour. On certain Wednesday mornings the museum offers activities specially for children (children's guided tours + puppet making workshop). From 10 - 12.00 am. By booking only. Timetable available on the museum website. Around the museum, the displays of automatic puppets are activated by an external button. These displays change with the seasons. The original artisan workshop for the production of automatons was opened in 1946 by the EMA family, for the production of advertising automatons for the decoration of shop window displays. The museum opened on the 8th of December 1991, originally called "Le Renaissance des Automates". Officially recognised as a public utility in 2007, the "Musée des Automates" (Automatons Museum) is currently managed by the ASG-EMA Foundation. The museum still produces advertising automatons for shop windows... which can be hired for events (Christmas, trade shows etc.). The museums automatons are regularly replaced.
