Vive le confort moderne! - The Modern Convenience Exhibition

You can enjoy the wonders of progress at the Tony Garnier Urban Museum until the 14th of December 2014.

Head to the Tony Garnier Urban Museum for a nostalgic look back at the recent past and relive Modern Times.

In the aftermath of the Second World War, everything had to be rebuilt... and the challenge was monumental.

Taylorism, Fordism and "The Glorious Thirty" (refers to the thirty years from 1945 to 1975 following the end of WWII), paved the way for a new social and economic order.

Employee vacation, paid leave and leisure had become accessible to all, during which people's daily lives were transformed.

A new ideology placed responsibility of children's education and housework to women, who had to juggle their domestic responsibilities with new career opportunities. There was an explosion in the consumption of new household appliances, such as washing machines and refrigerators. This progress has made giant strides towards the future!

This surprising  exhibition takes a look back at the needs and challenges of that era.

Discover the beginnings of a consumption frenzy which gave rise to today's society!

A "Must-See" exhibition.
