Signes de Richesse
Affiche de Signes de richesse, inégalités au Néolithique

"Signes de richesses, inégalités au Néolithique" (Signs of wealth – Inequality during the Neolithic era)

From the 1st of December to the 17th of April 2016 at the Confluences Museum

Take a journey through time, all the way back to the Neolithic era, 7000 years ago... The period following Prehistory that saw the development of human settlements, agriculture and hierarchical societies.

Objects, tools, clothes and jewellery were made and circulated within Europe. The quality of materials used allowed the more powerful to stand out and better assert their domination over others... Objects found in burial sites, sometimes of inestimable value, are signs of the social status of their former owners.

The exhibition presents exceptional objects that bear witness to hierarchical Neolithic societies, which were already marked by inequality and an awareness of outward signs of wealth.

The exhibition is organised by the National Museum of Prehistory in Les Eyzies-de-Tayac and the Réunion des Musées Nationaux-Grand Palais.
