Festival Lumière 2014

From the 13th to the 19th of October 2014, in 60 venues throughout Greater Lyon

Lumière, as in the Lumière brothers – the founders of cinema in Lyon.
It is only fitting that their name should be honoured with this festival for lovers of cinema past and present, which is organised by the Institut Lumière, for audiences of all ages, to discover (or rediscover) the classics, forgotten gems and little-known masterpieces with restored copies. These are films you never tire of watching.

Before screenings, or in the festival’s villages, actors, directors and the general public are brought together in a simple and friendly atmosphere built on a shared love of cinema.

Get ready for a week of evening events and retrospectives looking back at the work of Franck Capra, Sergio Leone and Claude Sautet, as well as tributes to Isabella Rossellini, Coluche, Ida Lupino and Michel Legrand.

The festival will include silent films accompanied by live music, after parties, screenings for a young audience, the unmissable Alien night for thrill-seekers, exhibitions, concerts, and more.

There will also be a “cinema market” in front of the Institut Lumière.

But most importantly, the festival is all about watching great films (in their original versions of course!)

This year, to follow in the footsteps of Tarantino, it had to be another real film buff: the Prix Lumière 2014 goes to Pedro Almodóvar!
