Concerts and Shows during the Festive Season 2015

Here are a few ideas to end 2015 with a touch of lightness and beauty in venues around Lyon.

As at the end of each year, and this year in particular, there is eager anticipation for the programmes being put on by the biggest venues and smallest theatres alike, as they promise to inspire dreams and create festive, joyful and romantic worlds.

At the Opera House, discover the fantastical, fairy-tale world of Offenbach's  King Carrot  – a colourful 'opéra-bouffe'. Offenbach will also be at the Théâtre de la Croix-Rousse with  Mesdames de la Halle , an eccentric and deliciously humorous opérette (produced in conjunction with the Opera House).

There's also plenty on offer in terms of concerts, from the traditional Christmas concerts held in Lyon's churches, to New Year's concerts with Viennese Waltzes that will make you want to dance and watch Sissi for the nth time!

Two concerts will be held before Christmas:   'On a volé l’étoile !' – a musical tale performed by the children's choir La Maîtrise de l’Opéra at Saint-Bonaventure church. On the 19th, there will be a moment of grace with ' Sabine Devieilhe chante Mozart ' (Sabine Devieilhe sings Mozart), accompanied by a violinist.
For the  New Year's concert , Kazushi Ono

will conduct the Lyon Opera's orchestra in an exhilarating programme including Offenbach and Johann Strauss Senior and Junior, with Felicity Lott as guest star.

On the 22nd, the Lyon Auditorium will be putting on  Bach's Christmas cantatas  to get into the festive spirit, conducted by Philippe Herreweghe (we are in for a treat!). Then, the ONL (Lyon National Orchestra) will whisk you off your feet with its  New Year's concert : Viennese waltzes and extracts of The Bat by Johann Strauss II. Always a treat!

The ' Grands Concerts Baroques ' have selected a superb programme to bring a touch of magic to the end of the year: on the 12th of December, they will play Bach's Christmas Cantatas and Magnificat with the CNSMD, followed by a series of concerts by Shostakovich, and ending in a magnificent concert-show 'Vivaldi in the Sky' at the Chapelle de la Trinité .

Lovers of great classical ballet will be delighted with the programme being put on at the Maison de la Danse, which will be presenting  The Nutcracker  performed by the Ballet of the Grand Théâtre de Genève.

To finish 2015 on a high note, there will be traditional dances with ' Songes des Nuits Slaves ' at the Bourse du Travail on the 31st of December 2015.

The theatre Les Célestins will be showing the fantasy-filled ' Carmen en Turakie '.

for its end-of-year programme. An occasion for the whole family, which plunges spectators into the imaginative world of Turak Théâtre. A zany, resourceful and imaginative work which offers a fun and offbeat interpretation of Bizet's Carmen.

Lastly, circus fans should not miss  Cirque Holiday  at the Carré de Soie, or  Cirque Bouffon , at the Radiant-Bellevue.

Dreams, laughter, music and champagne – enjoy the things that bring a touch of magic and beauty to the world.
We wish you a very happy festive season.
