Festival Britten

Britten Festival

From the 10th to the 29th of April 2014, Britten is being honoured at the Lyon Opera.

Every year, the Lyon Opera chooses a composer or a theme for its festival. In 2014, the work of Benjamin Britten, master of 20th century opera, will be featured to celebrate the hundredth anniversary of his birth.

The programme, which includes no less than three operas spanning 20 years of his career, is definitely worth a look. Three directors will produce three works in keeping with this season's theme –Les Vérités qui Dérangent(Disturbing Truths).

Peter Grimes is one for lovers of large orchestras and choirs, while The Turn of the Screw is far more intimist and the soberness of Curlew River is inspired by Nōgaku theatre…

With drama and emotion, as well as a consideration of differences and recognition of otherness, strangeness and strangers, they deal with burning and eternally contemporary issues.

Debates on the recognition of otherness and cultural and religious diversity have been organised in parallel at Villa Gillet in the Croix-Rousse district.

Opera that is thought-provoking, sometimes disturbing and always moving.
